MOUNT VERNON, January 18, 2018 — Fleetwood Synagogue will honor Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. on Sunday, March 11 at 4 pm at the Synagogue’s annual benefit cocktail reception. The Honorable Samuel G. Fredman, who served as Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, will also be recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The fundraising event will take place at the Synagogue located at 11 East Broad Street in Mount Vernon.

“We are delighted to honor two of Westchester County’s most exceptional public citizens for their years of passionate service,” said Irwin Davison, Co-Chair, Fleetwood Synagogue’s annual benefit. “Raised in Mount Vernon, District Attorney Scarpino grew up on Rockridge Road, just three doors from the home of the late Jack and Evelyn Braverman who were active members of our congregation. Young Tony and Jack developed a close friendship that evolved into years of weekly Bible study sessions. Our tribute to the District Attorney celebrates our special connection with him. We also acknowledge longstanding Westchester resident Judge Samuel Fredman for enhancing Jewish life in our community. Judge Fredman’s work in co-founding the Westchester Jewish Council, in addition to his many civil and philanthropic activities, has greatly benefitted our synagogue, congregants and our fellow citizens of Westchester.”

District Attorney Scarpino’s distinguished career includes his membership in the Judiciary as well as his service in law enforcement. He has served as a Mount Vernon City Court Judge, Westchester County Court Judge, New York State Supreme Court Judge and Westchester County Surrogate’s Court Judge. In 2016, District Attorney Scarpino was elected Westchester County District Attorney.

Judge Fredman has led an illustrious career as an attorney, judge and arbitrator. He focused on matrimonial law and is a member of the prestigious American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Judge Fredman also served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Ninth Judicial District. Active in numerous professional, community, charitable, religious and political organizations, Judge Fredman is past chairman of the Westchester County Democratic Committee and co-founder and former president of the Westchester Jewish Council.
